BYD's Yangwang reveals U9 electric supercar

At the conclusion of its event yesterday, BYD unveiled a sleek-looking supercar in addition to the tough U8 and its new premium electric sub-brand Yangwang.

According to rumors from the premiere in China, the Yangwang U9 will compete with cars like the Aion Hyper SSR and the Lotus Evija and is not simply a concept car.

The so-called "Yisifang" quad electric motor arrangement, which will be shared by all Yangwang models, including the U8 SUV, is said to be installed in the U9. If and when this will be extended to other BYD vehicles is unknown.

Yangwang mentioned that the supercar can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in a claimed 2.0 seconds but did not provide specific power and torque numbers. The Aion Hyper SSR is 0.1 seconds faster than this.

For perspective, the quad-motor Yangwang U8 incorporates torque-vectoring features like crab walk and tank turn and a total system output of about 820kW.

The "gate of time and space" design language is used to style the Yangwang U9. It is a two-door sports automobile with a low profile and several aerodynamic features.

Large C-shaped LED headlights, a splitter, and bonnet vents are all present at the front.

There are contoured wheel arches, wide scissor-opening doors with cutouts, and air inlets for the electric motors all around the side.

A full-width LED light bar and a lavish rear diffuser are present at the back. Moreover, there is a transparent fin and louvered back window evocative of the Mercedes-AMG One.
